gas stove for new home

ok..new to site..needing a 60 inch gas oven range for new construction home! I live in mIssouri..keep that in mind...

I have looked at bluestar, fivestar, viking, wolf....was originally going with bluestar, but wherever I look for pricing it says to call them! I am also concerned about servicing if I ever need it...remember I live in midwest

Any advice?

Fivestar gives you mediocre performance and mediocre build quality at relatively budget prices.

Wolf gives you mediocre performance with first rate build quality at premium prices.

Bluestar gives you first rate performance with mediocre build quality at premium prices.

And Capital Culinarian gives you first rate performance and first rate build quality at premium prices.

Very welcome. And not to hijack the thread, but after looking long and hard at various high-end gas ranges and rangetops, I decided on induction. YMMV.

Induction is electric. No flames. But the responsiveness and heat delivery are even better than gas. You may decide against it, but it's worth a serious look.

ab, you know what a fan *I* am of inductioin. Just bought another one for a second home. Friends came over tonight and one is planning a major kitchen remodel. She was QUITE interested when she saw me cooking on the induction and iscoming back for some one on one.

chulett, I'm from Missouri as well. I did avoid Bluestar because the closest one was in Memphis and because of issues I had with another range, service was a very important issue. There is a retailer in STL now though.
DeeAgeaux, I think those are some pretty sweeping generalizations! It depends on how you use your range. Each of those ranges have advantages and disadvantages.

I've had nothing but great performance from my Wolf for both cooking and baking. I have the DF and it has by far the lowest simmer, on all the burners. I do think the AG Wolf simmer runs a little hotter from what I have seen on the internet. The oven, which is very important to me has great modes for baking and roasting enabling you to direct the heat. Some prefer closed burners, for easy cleaning. I would have gone for open myself but the heat of the burners has been plenty for me for searing steaks, etc.

I think Bluestar has the best configuration for their burners with the star shape, and will allow you to use smaller as well as bigger pans. You could in fact get away with cheaper pans because the star burner heats more evenly. It also has an infrared broiler as does the Culinarian. We did not think the fit and finish were as nice when we saw the Bluestar.

The Culinarian has the highest self reported BTU rating, but there is more to just the BTU rating in getting the heat to your food. You also need to consider burner configuration, pan size and composition, and what you are cooking. Most seem to think the fit and finish is pretty good.

I would seriously consider induction as well. Most, but not all seem to really like them.

"Call for price" is company policy for Bluestar,Wolf, and many other high end appliance brands.

Wolf won't allow stores in my area to post prices inside their brick and mortar retailers. You have to ask a salesperson. No kidding.

Bluestar is my 2nd favorite with Capital Culinarian being my top choice for gas ranges.

You are looking at $10k-$15K depending on configuration.

Some people have purchased two 30" ranges. Requires two gas hookups but works for some people.

Check out the Culinarian videos on youtube.

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeteXH...

You may want to call either Bluestar,Capital, or whatever other appliance comany you are looking at to inquire about who does their servicing in your area.

But any of these high end companies will contract someone in your area if they currently don't have one.

Remember this is not a speed oven or high tech induction cooktop.

Just about any reasonably trained tech can handle a basic gas range.

thank you for your reply! was looking at bluestar 60 inch with griddle and grill with the 6 burners...high end is costly! I will look at capital culinarian now that you brought it up!

My neighbor has Subzero fridge and Dacor range. Service takes forever. It can take a couple of weeks before they come out to diagnose the problem. Then they have to order parts so that can be more weeks. She said she would gladly throw them off her second floor deck if she were strong enough. We live an hour from Reno FWIW.

Dacor blows. Would not touch them with a 10ft pole.

No refrigerator company offers really excellent reliability.

Some are better and some worse.

Sub-Zero is one of the better ones.

For every complaint you see 10 praises for sub-zero.

SZ has the ABSOLUTE best resale value.

That is putting your money where your mouth is.

If you don't have class or near class leading reliability you don't get that resale value.

Look at what used SZs fetch on craigslist.

I know several people who own SZ and would never buy anything else.

I was not addressing the quality of any particular brand but rather it's sometimes quite a lengthy process when one DOES need service. OP lives in Missouri not LA.

                      OP lives in America.

                      Not Haiti.

Unless you are talking previously mentioned speed ovens, induction cooktops or brands like Gaggenau,Liebherr,or Kuppersbusch OP will be fine.

Dealing with Kenmore can sometimes be quite a lengthy process.

My neighbor had these problems with Subzero and Dacor. I don't believe you understand that not every place has "authorized" service people so it can be a lengthy process. It was weeks and weeks each time.
