Looking for new, good, hip, not $$$$$, from mid town and south. What can you suggest? THANKS!
Traveling back into NYC for one night and want to get a reservation now. Place doens't have to be on top 10 list - but maybe you've been there and have fallen in love.
was there last week and sent two dishes back. the cod which although cooked sous vide - was raw and looked horrific and the steak frites which although "juliette" cut which i still have not been able to find a description of anywhere - was inedible due to the amount of fat and grizzle hanging off the meat.
What is the one night you are here? A date is more helpful... or at least day of the week. Are you here next week? Next month? The most popular restaurants book up quickly.
Are you traveling solo or with a few other people? For some restaurants, if you cannot get a reservation, keep in mind that many of the newer, hot restaurants save tables for walk-in patrons, and/or have dining at the bar.
Eater is a good place to start for "where to eat right now" as in what is hot/buzzy.
Doing a quick OpenTable search:
Aldea - not super new but excellent
Ciano - I am not sure it's super hip but has gotten a lot of positive feedback here
Empellon - Alex Stupak (ex WD-50)'s new Mexican place
Fat Radish - recently positively reviewed by the New York Times, http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/02/dining/reviews/02rest.html
Kin Shop - Harold Dieterle of Top Chef's newish Thai-inspired place
Nuela - has gotten a lot of positive feedback here, cool decor
Recette - http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/31/dining/reviews/31rest.html

I'd also call The Dutch ASAP, it's very new and buzzy.

ABC Kitchen is not showing much availability at all on OpenTable, but it's worth calling and asking. FWIW, they were completely booked on a random weekday when I went a few weeks ago. We were a party of 2 and waited a short while for a table in the bar area, but the bar area has tiny tables and super tall chairs. Not exactly the most comfortable place to eat.
