Italian Barrel -- I should have known

I have passed this place for a while now and the menu looks delicious. So today i decided to give it a shot. At 12:30 it was nearly empty. I should have walked away then, but the butternut squash ravioli looked tempting so in I went. Such a let down. The $16 ravioli was way too sweet and tough. I would bet that they were purchased frozen. The wine was incredibly expensive--$12 a glass for a basic SB. I thought the dessert might be better, but the profiteroles were pretty obviously prefrozen as well. All in all, although it was fun to sit in the French Quarter on such a beautiful random Thursday and count my blessings, the food was a disappointment. It's quite possible they save the best stuff for dinner, but it'd be nice if the reduction in quality was reflected in the lunch price. I hate to be harsh but I post this as a warning--there are far better places to dine in NOLA! .

  1. A year ago, this was one of my favorite places to dine. Something dreadful has happened there in the last few months. The food is only so so and the prices are high...never a good combo. Was hoping your review was going to be a good one :-(

I was so excited to try this place--it's so cozy looking and the menu is right up my alley. Sounds like I should have gotten there sooner:)

    2. ditto...I had about 10 reccommendations and my schedule allowed for an afternoon in the quarter so I gave it a try a few weeks ago. All I could think was WTH? Weak service, weak sauces, huge prices and so so salads. The only good part of the meal was the cheese plate, mostly because of the condiments, but it was something like $30...would not advise anyone to try this place. Super disappointed.
