BYOB for a group of 80

chefjeannine May 18, 2011 02:56 PM

Does anyone know of any BYOB's that could accommodate a group of about 80? My thoughts are probably not too many. It would ideally be somewhere near Downtown or Old Port, with not-too-adenturous food (as we have a large group with different palates to please), at a reasonable price (between 20-35 pp).
Thanks in advance!

Terasse Lafayette comes to mind but it's in Mile End and has gotten mixed reviews on this board. You might need to rent out the whole place - not sure how many seats it has.

You can try "Les Infidèles" (http://www.lesinfideles.ca/

With 80 people, you might have to get the room for yourself.

I don't think you could fit 80 people into Les Infidèles. The room seats about 40 people on a regular night.

I think O'Thym could be large enough. although the food is no great shakes.

Maybe try Bitoque on Notre Dame West. I can't remember how many they can accommodate but I believe the price is within your range.

Maybe try L'Academie on Crescent. Not haute cuisine, but fits your budget and they should be able to accomodate 80 people.

I had one of the worst pasta dishes of my entire life at L'Academie. I don't know if I just picked a bad dish (salmon with cream sauce) but I would hesitate to send anyone there. Maybe others have had different experiences.

L'Academie is awful, but as a last resort for large groups with no reservations its sometimes the only option. A few of their pasta dishes (gnocchi) are passable, and their mussels are a reasonable deal, but otherwise its tough to recommend either location.

As for O'Thyme, I think it could work if they do private functions, and I find their food to be reasonably good at that price point.

I'll have to agree with Fintastic on this one. Thankfully, the event is in September, so we'll have time to plan and wont have to fall back on L'Academie as a last resort. I've has nothing but horrible meals there.
It seems our options may be limited, and we'll have to find a non-BYOB, but at a good price.

you could check out if this resto in plateau area could accomodate 80, from recall i think it might; prices reasonable and they have meat, fish as well as swiss specialities; small terrace out front
