Seven cases of Coke

The kind you drink--just the USA kind in cans is fine.

I need 7 cases for a fund raising event and am looking for the least expensive on the Westside.

Thanks a lot chowhounds.

  1. Smart and Final, Lincoln Blvd, assuming you don't own a Costco card...

Yeah, Costco will be the cheapest option. If you don't have a Costco membership, Smart & Final. Vons has a special this week; buy two 12packs of Coke and you get two 12 packs, free. That would be about $14 for 2 cases after tax, and CRV.

    2. Did you only want brand name "coke?" If not the Venice 99 Cent store has Shasta Cola 6 sets of 4-12 oz. cans at a Case Price of $4.80

      1. Smart and Final on Venice has 4 twelve packs for $10 this week. Must buy in multiples of four to get the sale price. Don't forget about redemption and all those other add on taxes when budgeting. It's amazing how fast that adds up when you're buying in bulk. Been there, done that for stocking up an event.

Yes, I'd better stick to name brand.

So Smart and Final beats the Vons special; and Costco (I do have a card) beats Smart and Final?

Thanks for the info--I'm more a a 2-liter (Diet Dr. Pepper) guy myself.

Costco generally beats Smart and Final. But at this S&F sale price, I think S&F is better? But not completely sure, I don't buy Coke in large quantities at either place enough to make a definitive statement. But my rule of thumb when buying for large events is if it's $2.50 or less a 12 pack, it's the best you can get. Used to be $2 but that was years ago.

Regular good (non sale) pricing is usually $3-3.50 ish? for a 12 pack.

            1. re: Jase

Jase, FYI, the last time I purchased 12-Packs (for the Superbowl?), Vons was selling 12-packs (Coke, Pepsi, etc) for $2 each (minimum purchase of 4). And with coupons I found online, I got the cost down to $1.50 per 12-pack plus tax and CRV. Sales of $2 and under per 12-pack don't happen regularly any more but they still occur occasionally.

About six weeks ago, I bought 24-packs for Pepsi for $3.99 each (minimum purchase of 2) from Stater Bros in one of its 4 Day Specials.

Last week, Smart & Final was selling 12-packs of Shasta for $1.77 plus tax and CRV.

Thanks for the info! I hardly ever get cokes in large quantities any more. Less demand for soda over the years. Good to know you can still get it at $2/12 pack once in a while. The few times I've shopped in bulk the last few years, it seemed like $2.50 was the new low.

Please note that Smart & Final's sale of 4 12-packs of Coke for $10 is valid only from Friday. May 20 through Sunday, May 22 ("72 Hour Sale") -- according to the Smart & Final circular I got in the mail

Thanks for the heads up Norm Man--such a good deal I may get a case or 2 myself!

              1. re: Scotty

Scotty, also note the Smart & Final circular says "Must buy in multiples of 4 for sale price" of 4 12-packs for $10 plus tax and CRV.

That's 7 for the event and one for Scotty.

                  1. re: Akitist

                    Exactly right!

The only trouble with the Smart & Final purchase was there was also a limit of 2 cases per person. I went with my wife and we got in differnt lines (twice).

                    1. re: Scotty

I was at the Venice blvd in Culver City one on Sat and they didn't seem to have the limit. They were honoring the flyer details of must buy in multiples of four. I was in there to pick up the brisket so I could make my own corned beef. Every cart had four cases.

Did you go to a different one?

                      1. re: Scotty

This doesn't make sense. The deal is 4, 12 packs for $10. What do you mean by 2 cases? 2, 12packs? or a case=24 cans?

Maybe you meant a limit of 2 "deals"

                        1. re: reality check

Correct, the deal is (was) 4-12 packs for $10 (but was limited to 4 and only 4- 12 packs (or 2 cases) per person).

So to get 7 cases for the event, I have to buy 8 cases or 16-12 packs, and I have to go through the line 4 times (at least at the S&M on Olimpic. So I kept 1 case (2-12 packs) (24 cans) for myself!

Now how fast was that train from New York going again?
