Hello - wondering where we can buy kashkaval cheese for making pastice (Albanian lasanga of sorts).

Any help would be great. THANKS!

Can you use Italian Caciocavalo instead?

I asked my Serbian co-worker, and she hasn't seen it in any store (including the Bosnian supermarket in Fridley). She recommends mail-ordering.

I think I've seen it somewhere, but I can't remember where... sorry! Places to check:

            - The Bosnian Supermarket in Fridley (it's a tiny grocery, not a supermarket, but they have lots of things from that part of the world).

            - Caspian Bistro (unlikely, but they carry Turkish dairy products and Bulgarian jams and relishes).

            - Holy Land (even more unlikely, but they do stock some food from the South Balkans).

            Good luck with your quest!

I'm not in your area, but have purchased it from "Whole Foods", if you have one in your vicinity. If not, check out any market that has a decent cheese section, & check carefully. Sometimes the pieces of Kaskaval are sort of mixed in with other similar cheeses & aren't clearly identified by signage.
