My dad eats only hamburgers. I eat everything. He’s paying. Where to go?
I’m a struggling writer who loves food but rarely gets to eat out. My parents are coming for the weekend so I’m looking forward to going to some real restaurants. Unfortunately my dad’s palate is extremely limited. Burgers or steak. That’s it. No sauce on those either. I love anything and everything from sushi to Ethiopian.
So my question is: What are some really interesting restaurants with great food that also have a burger or steak on the menu? (medium price level). For example, I think Lazy Ox Canteen is a good pick because they have a varied gourmet menu but they also have a burger.

Another option: the Westside Tavern in the Westside Pavilion Mall (by Pico/Westwood). They have burgers (and steak) on their lunch and dinner menus and I've had no problems customizing orders (sauce on the side, fries instead of chips, etc.). My favorite meal there is the jar of chicken liver mousse washed down with the grapefruit rickey.

Great replies so far everyone. Thanks! I'll have to check out some of these menus online. I love FO but they may be the only restaurant who won't accept a "plain" request.
As to the origin of why my father likes a plain hamburger only, it remains a mystery.

re: assassin
Tavern makes a great burger and it arrives with all of the condiments on the side. The beef is ground in-house and is really delicious. The buns are also made on the premises. Served with argugala salad or great fries. Price is about $17.00. Lots of good things on the menu for you, as well. Just a note that the burgers are not served in the main dining room after 7:00. However, the bar or "Blue Room" is a very warm and inviting space and the bar menu is great. Happy hour between 3 and 6 on weeknights.
