Isn't there another hot dog place, nearby? Vicious Dogs?

Soul Dog is very cool and filling and delicious. Mac Dog with mac and cheese on the hot dog is ridiculous. Like the vibe too...good music, good people.

Is this a natural casing dog? Snap or no snap?

natural casing with a snap and all-beef but without nitrates and preservatives and antibiotics according to their claims.

I checked this place out last weekend... Split the original Soul Dog (with sweet potato puree, bacon, greens and relish) and the Mac Daddy (with Mac and Cheese, diced green peppers, and fried onions) with a friend. We also split the loaded fries (fries with chili, mac and cheese and cheese crumbles).

The toppings were a great idea in theory but were messy to eat because they kept falling off the dog. They had just been essentially piled on top and not tucked into the bun, which I prefer. The hot dogs themselves were so/so. Not much of a snap and kinda rubbery. Come to think of it, they kinda tasted like they have been microwaved but I'm sure that's not the case.

The whole thing, especially the Mac Daddy, was bland. Almost needed some kind of a sauce to pull it all together.

Wouldn't necessarily get the dogs again, but the loaded fries were awesome and so was the staff and the ambiance. Wasn't super expensive and the food did come pretty quickly.

              3 item report:

chili cheese dog, carolina slaw dog, sweet potato fries

CCD: delicious chili, snappy beef dog, not enough cheese even though I saw him put on a ton. It's quite a large and filling dog. Very good for CCD, could use a little more cheese. Definitely prefer this CCD over Tommy's. Probably my second favorite CCD in the city.

Carolina Slaw: wow, this was amazing. Great snap dog, great chili, delicious slaw that wasn't too runny/sweet, srsly delicious.

Sweet potato fries: also delicious. Super crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. Didn't feel like the standard frozen sweet potato fries found everywhere else.

Wanted to try the fried chicken, but it's dropped to order and we came in too late.

Only downsides are slightly high price. Will go back for chicken and report back. After going here, I seriously have no idea how vicious dogs across the street has 4.5* on yelp.

Fried chicken and sweet potato fries were a pleasant surprise. Really liked that the chicken is cooked to order. Nice and crisp and not greasy. The hot dog was OK but not memorable.

Came back around for the chicken.

Dog was better the first time for some reason, but still damn tasty.

Mac and cheese is the best mac and cheese "side" (for less than $4...) I've had in LA. Fries were done very well. Chicken was freaking awesome. Not greasy at all, crunchy as hell.

Better than LFC, Roscoes, etc. I'd daresay it's my second favorite piece of fried chicken after momofuku's. Note I haven't tried Pann's or any of the other baller fried chicken in LA.

They do sunday chicken & waffles which I'm sure are miles better than Roscoe's too.
