Best Korean

Which place is the best overall Korean resto with high quality ingredients and great dishes?

  1. Misung 888? I wouldn't mind getting a group together to go there.

I'm in. How to arrange such an thing?

I must say that Misung 888 had great dak bok ki (I found it there due to another Austin board thread) and I also enjoyed their hae mul jab tang. Their stir fries weren't the best (gristly meat, tough squid, kind of greasy). I'd still like to go there with a group though because there best items are the giant ones meant to be shared with multiple diners like the stews/soups and a couple of other items like the dak bok ki.

I wouldn't mind flying down for it !

I just finished slurping my way through every bowl of gamjatang in the greater Boston area, and Misung 888 still sings loudly to me, even after a few years.

Oh hey, somehow I missed this thread, too. Any updates on the places mentioned in this older thread?

        1. There is no best Korean. There are a few restaurants with the best version of a particular dish but in my opinion, none that has the best of something across the board.

From what I remember, you can't have pork, right luckyfatima? If so that is unfortunate, as Misung888 is best known for their Kamja Tang

lixlix where would you say is best for what dishes these days?

I haven't eaten Korean food in a while aside from when I went for Korean Fried Chicken at Sommunanjib (which I think is the best for KFC)

I would still say that Odaku Sushi has the best Soong dubu Chigae (soft tofu soup) with Korean Grill fairly close.

For BBQ, I would go to Chosun Galbi

For Kamja Tang, Stir Fried pork belly, seafood paejeong, I would go to Misung 888

For lunch time, I would go to Sommunanjib's lunch buffet.

                Thanks for the recs.

I like Korean Grill in Chinatown Center for hae mul tang as well. It is the best I have tried in Austin between 888 and Korea House---all were good but Korean Grill's was best IMHO. It's 30$ there but comes with a whole octopus among other seafood, and their broth tasted the richest.

Sommunanjib no longer has a buffet. However, the KFC is delicious.
