In town next week - need recs for casual near Penns View Hotel

My sister and I are visiting Philly for the first time next week (Sun - Weds). I've been reading the board the last couple days and have plenty of info about high end places and sandwiches. But can you help with recs for casual but great food and drink within walking distance of the Penns View Hotel (Front & Market St)? Looking for dinner mostly, but would welcome suggestions for apps and lunch too. We aren't big breakfast people and will likely just grab something to have with coffee and walk, so if there are any bakeries or good cafes nearby that would be great. Thanks!

I live a couple of blocks from Penns View Hotel--it's a lovely place! I think you'll really enjoy staying there.

There are some great casual places to eat and drink around here. My favorite for coffee is Double Shots on Strawberry and Chestnut Sts., however Old City Coffee on Church St. has better baked goods (plus good, very strong coffee).

Besides the spots for lunch, dinner, apps and drinks already mentioned, there's also Philadelphia Bar and Restaurant on Market St., just across the parking lot from your hotel; and Triumph Brewing Company on Chestnut, between 2nd and Letitia Sts. A little further west on Market, there is Soho Pizza and Mac's Tavern; and on Church St. near Old City Coffee, you have Sugar Mom's. Lastly, Sassafras on 2nd St. near Chestnut is a charming little bar to enjoy cocktails and people-watch through their tall glass doors.

Can,t get any closer than the restaurant in the hotel...Panarama...good food and drink. Walk a block south and there's Spasso, another good choice. Area around 2nd and Chestnut, a 2 block walk, and you have about 25 restaurants to choose from....enjoy!

+ 1 for panorama, but you probably want the bar side of the restaurant, the formal restaurant is(used to be at least) more fancy. I have never had a bad meal there.

i'd second khyber (really enjoyed their oyster po' boy and pulled pork) and han dynasty for casual dinner, and for coffee recommend Old City Coffee (221 Church Street). Southwark makes excellent cocktails and is about a 15 -20 minute walk from your hotel but its through one of the prettier neighborhoods in the city (note: they are closed monday)

The neighborhoods you should be searching for are Old City and Society Hill.

          Coffee: Bodhi Coffee
Dinner: Zahav, Khyber Pass Pub, Han Dynasy, Fork
Lunch: Han Dynasty, Khyber Pass Pub
Beer: Khyber Pass Pub, Eulogy, Irish Pol
Cocktails & Apps: Southwark (a little further but worth it, the charcuterie plate is insane. You can easily catch a cheap cab back if you walk a block up to South St)
Cheesesteak (if you must): Sonny's is good enough.

Tartes is a bakery a few blocks from your hotel on Arch St. between second and third. They have excellent molasses cookies and other treats.

I would add Amada to barryg's dinner recs and particularly like Zahav, both of which are an easy walk.

Also make sure to visit the Reading Terminal Market for the roast pork sandwiches at DiNic's for a lunch. It's a short (15 minute) walk to 12th and Arch Sts: http://www.readingterminalmarket.org
