Where would you vacation in Italy? Water is required
Our family goes to Italy for two weeks every summer. One week is spent in Rome (our favorite city) and with my relatives, the other week is spent somewhere new. We have a 7 yo and 4 yo and they love to be in the water. We have been to Puglia (Monopoli) and Abruzzo (Pescara), but we're looking for a new destination for our vacation this summer. a little town with an outdoor market, great food offerings and some sort of non choppy body of water (we love when they have little coves or barriers carved out so there are no waves. Just nearly disgustingly warm water for them to play in.) Any suggestions?

How about Calabria? I went with some friends to their family home last year. Their village was in the mountains, but you could see the sea, and it was only a matter of a 1/2 hour drive to the coast. A lovely combination, and not nearly as touristed as other parts of Italy. Also very agricultural, so the food was fabulous! It was August, and these lovely little pears were in season...yum! That part of Italy is also known for wonderful pork products. From Rome, you can fly into Lamezia Terme. Less than an hour long flight.
Folks, please remember to keep replies focused on food. General travel planning is off topic for Chowhound.
