MISTRAL SHERMAN OAKS......

Went to Mistral in Sherman Oaks last evening for my Pops B-DAY dinner.. I have to say that it was an overall pleasant experience.. I split the Whit Fish which was served with a classic lemon caper sauce.. Very good.. The chocolate souffle was a nice finish to the meal.. I love the classic New York feel of the place.. Even though the fair is quite on the pricey side it makes for a nice dining experience once in a while. Just thought I would give them a shout out.. Cheers all.....

    1. I've only been there twice, but agree, really nice place.

        1. One of the valley's best restaurants and has been for over 20 years.
Nicest staff and owner imaginable, and all have been there for at least 10 years.
But the fare is a bit stiff for regular dining, but for that special occasion, no place does it better.

          1. My wife and I just went there for her 40th birthday (to have a nice dinner for 2 after the group blowout) and it was really, really good, albeit pricey. As Carter said, perfect for a special occasion. My wife doesn't east meat on the bone or dark meat and they were happy to substitute 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts for the Chicken Mistral. She loved it. I had a special of Veal Tenderloin, in that same lemon caper sauce, and it was unbelievable. We have lived in Sherman Oaks for 12 years and we couldn't believe we had never been.
Oh, I also had a special grilled calamari salad that was fantastic as well. This is not bashful food though. All of our dishes were rich and heavily seasoned.

Just went to Mistral a few weeks ago. First time in a while. Still a beautiful restaurant; kind of San Francisco-ish. Dark wood, elegant. Daughter had the branzino, which she loved. I honestly can't remember what I had (ouch). We shared the chocolate souffle. May sound trite, I suppose, but the souffle was oh-so-delicious. Only complaints are they seemed to rush us out (turnover, turnover, turnover) and they did not acknowledge my daughter's birthday as I had discreetly requested. I'd return and hopefully have a leisurely meal!

            2. This is a restaurant that people from over the hill come to. The steak tartare is absolutely one of the best if not the best in Los Angeles with pomme frite.

One of the finest serving staffs in all of Los Angeles and the owner Henry is the consummate restauranteur. It is pricey and worth every penny of it.

Mme Zoe and I come from over the hill to this outstanding French restaurant with wonderful Steak Tartare - it has a true bistro feel with Henry absolutely hands on at every turn to make sure that everything is perfect or close to. A bit noisy but the ambiance and food makes up for it. Pricey - well its quality A+ food.

              2. I dont get to Mistral too often because I don't live in Sherman Oaks anymore, but when I'm in the area, I go. I love it.
