Korean Salted Shrimp

Hi,
I am attempting to follow the kimchi recipe found here on chow and one of the ingredients is the korean salted shrimp. My local oriental grocery didn't have them, but they did have fresh, super tiny shrimp shown in the image I attached. Can I substitute these instead or is there a way to brine these myself? Thank you.

Thanks so much for both your feedback! I'll try using a little fish sauce with them like suggested since I already bought them. :)

It won't be quite the same but you can add these shrimp to your kimchi. I would probably use them in conjunction with some fish sauce.

Those look like the shrimp that go into saewoo juht, but that stuff is brined/fermented for a period of months before it's ready. Here's a link to maangchi's recipe where she substitutes with fish sauce, which is a bit of an easier find.

Good luck with your kimchi! :)
