Suggestions for a 40th birthday party

I'm planning my husband's 40th birthday party. We are looking at about 40-50 guests. It is not until January, but I am trying to get a headstart. We are thinking open bar + heavy appetizers passed around. Any suggestions on venues and caterers and a DJ would be much appreciated. Any location in Manhattan is fine, though downtown is prefered. Budget has some flexibility but we want good value for money, memorable food and good drinks.

You really need to say what your budget is in order for people to be able to help you.

Gutsofsteel, good point! We are thinking no more than $150 per head.

Does that include the open bar, food, tax, tip, and DJ?

I recently attended a friend's event at Top of the Garden for about this size group...beautiful space with great views near Madison Square Garden. The event was catered by KG Fare and the food, drinks, and service were superb!

BLT fish has a 2nd level that is available for parties. You can bring in a DJ.
