Macaroni Salad Recipe?

Hi Hounds,

I'm looking for a recipe for the macaroni salad you get with a Hawaiian plate lunch or a Japanese combination dinner. The taste is different to me, not so sweet or mayonnaisey, and I find it very good. Does anyone have such a recipe? Thanks!

I tried this recipe exactly as written and it was really tasty. Creamy, sweet and tangy. It had a little too much mayo for my taste, but that's just me. I'll definitely make it again. And because I can't help but tinker and make it my own, I would use a little less mayo and vinegar, and add extra celery and carrot.

    2. My typical dressing is mayo or Miracle Whip, white vinegar, grated onion or chopped scallions, diced celery, shredded carrots and a touch of sugar. For a little heat, the dressing is rather good with Sriracha. Pineapple or diced apple and shredded cheese are also good additions.

      1. ever tasted Kewpie mayo? IMO it's the best for making mayo based salads. I've seen a lot of Hawaiian and Japanese fast food joints use it.

        1. Mayo, grated or minced red onion, rice wine vinegar, sugar, shredded cheddar cheese. Never had Hawaiian mac with celery, carrots, etc. Nothing like that Cooks Country recipe.

          1. Very easy and tasty recipe: 16 oz box of salad macaroni boiled and cooled. 3 cups of mayo mixed with 2 teaspoons of salt, a half teaspoon of white and a half teaspoon of black pepper.A half cup of shredded carrots and finely minced sweet onion. Mix well. Use as much of the mayo as you would like. I use the whole amount. Simple, but is a great side for a Hawaiian style plate lunch.

Try using Japanese mayo in a salad. Tasty.
