Gruner/Nostrana v. Paley's/clarklewis

From Chicago, visiting Portland for 4 days. I've only been there one other time, and enjoyed clarklewis. One of the owners of Liner & Elsen recommended Paley's Place, which we never got to.

Reviewing the threads here, I think we'll take a stab at Toro and Clyde Common, understanding that they take no reservations.

We like a good wine list as well as an interesting force behind a cocktail list, and prefer food that focuses on seasonal produce. For the other two nights, does anyone have an opinion about clarklewis vs. Nostrana, given their cuisines? Gruner vs. Paley's Place?

You might want to stop in @ Vino Paradiso, they have a great selection of wine, and small plates.. as does Metrovino...and the food @ metrovino is really good, it's a great happy hour destination.
If you want an interesting force behind a cocktail list, you must sit at the bar@ Laurelhurst Market and have a cocktail by Evan, He makes alot of things by hand,,,you can see a video @ Chow tours...he is spectacular and a real cocktail nerd and can tell you all about what he's been making.
Have fun and let us know what you enjoyed!

I second the vote for Metrovino. The winelist is very good and the food fantastic! IMHO the best charcuterie plate in town. My other choices would be Nostrana and Paley's Place. ALWAYS Paley's Place, especially if you focus on seasonal produce.

I would go to Gruner and Paley's. clarklewis is fine, but not amazing, and Nostrana, while usually very good, is big and loud and the service is awful.

I would also agree with Metrovino - in addition to the wine, they're actually very underated as a cocktail bar.

Chalmers - the loudness quotient of Nostrana is good to know. I tend to like conversation friendly places! Looks like Metrovino is a good choice.
