Drinks while waiting for Neptune

The "plan" is to get to Neptune Oyster Bar pretty much at 5pm this Thursday. If we fail and get there later and the wait is an hour or so, where do people go to wait and grab a drink? And...once you get "the call" how long do they give you to get there? I mean if you've just ordered a drink, do you have to chug it and go?

I go to Assaggio on Prince street, it's only about 2 blocks away and they serve massive martinis that hold me over until dinner. I'd say its respectful to return for your table 5-10 minutes after they call you. So CHUG!

The choices really close by are kind of sucky. The least bad of the bunch is Bacco. When I want a real cocktail in the North End, I head to the bar at Lucca or Prezza.

Bacco is closeby and spacious so it is generally a good call for pre-Neptune. They may not be master cocktail craftsmen, however they do manage to pour a generous drink at least.

This never became a problem for me. We got to Neptune at 6pm on 5/19 and they had "locked the doors". 200 people long waiting list. Maybe next time :(

yikes! was that thurs some special day? graduation week? Anyone had experience trying to go to Neptune on a Fri or Sat for dinner?(We're wondering about 6/3 or 4; hosting CH visitor.)Thanks much.

Neptune (and the entire NE) is certainly much more busy in the warm weather months. I have never seen it locked out, but I am not surprised. College graduations have been rolling all month (Harvard tomorrow is pretty much the end).

You can also get a drink at the bar in the Florentine Cafe on Hanover.

I usually head to Goody Glovers which is on the corner of Salem.As long as you keep it simple(beer,wine,highball)it's a decent Irish style bar.Neptune generally calls in half their estimated wait time in my experience.

Me and my date grabbed drinks at Rabia's right down the street. The place was empty and had a decent bar. I also missed the call from Neptune, and walked down there about 15 minutes later. They put me at the next available table
