Upscale Saturday Lunch

  • 8

I will be visiting in Mid-June for a long weekend. I am having dinner at Per Se on Thursday and Corton on Friday. For various reasons, I am going to be busy on Saturday night, but I would like to squeeze one more high-end meal into the schedule -- a Saturday lunch. Unfortunately, it seems most of the restaurants I am interested in (Eleven Madison Park, for example) do not serve lunch on Saturday. Momofuku Ko would have also been good, but we are a party of 3, and they only take reservations for 2 or 4. It seems like the only reasonable choice in Jean Georges -- does anyone know if they will do something a little more 'full featured' than the 2 course prix-fixe? Suggestions for anything better? Thanks!

  1. You can add on as many courses as you want at Jean-Georges. It's a good deal. Another place you might want to consider is Tocqueville. Excellent value prix-fixe, though with limited choices, or you can order a la carte. I understand Bouley serves lunch on Saturday also, though I have not tried it.

    1. I highly recommend the lunch tasting at Bouley. It's upscale in terms of food, presentation, setting, and service, and if you do a site search you'll find a lot of helpful reviews.

      1. Picholine offers a two course lunch prix fixe for $29 ($14 for each additional course) as well as a 10 course chef's tasting menu for $88.

I did not realize Picholine was open for lunch on Saturday. I would also recommend it highly.

The last few dinners we had at Picholine were sensational. Service is always pleasant and polished, and the atmospherics are lovely.

It's great that there is now the option of having lunch there, albeit only on Friday and Saturday. We shall certainly be taking advantage of that opportunity. In addition to the 2-course prix-fixe and the 10-course Chef's Tasting, there is a 7-course tasting for $58.

          2. Just returned from an amazing long weekend in New York, with Jean Georges for lunch on Friday. Best lunch deal, perhaps, in the City. The next day we did Bar Masa for lunch, a must stop for me on any trip there. I'm unsure if Yasuda is open on Saturday's for lunch.
