Dinner in Newton Centre

Any recommendations for a dinner spot in or near Newton Centre? I'm flexible on the type of cuisine and price. Thanks.

I'm sure someone will come up w. recs right in Newton Centre, but I have a few at other places in Newton. Heading west on Beacon St, there is a Chinese restaurant at the Beacon St. / Walnut St. intersection. Take a right on Walnut, and it's on the right almost immediately. Continue on Walnut to Newtonville, and at the intersection of Washington St. there is Lam's, a very good Thai restaurant. I haven't dined at the Middle Eastern restaurant also at this intersection recently, perhaps someone will have.

The Chinese restaurant at Beacon & Walnut is now under Taiwanese management and called Sweet Potato Bistro. I haven't eaten there yet, but I picked up a takeout menu and it looks promising, with many Taiwanese specialties along with the "standard" dishes.

I've had a couple of dishes from there, and they were quite good!

Newton Centre has over 20 places to eat by my last count, most of them are designed more for take out in my opinion but some are nice sit-down places, all of them are 1-2 blocks from the T station. I would not suggest that Chinese place, I haven't been there but it's sort of run down and has gotten some funny comments on Chowhound.

Other places that I would recommend are:

Deluxe Station Diner, this is a new place in the old and charming green line T station (former Boston & Albany station) http://www.deluxestationdiner.com/

Cafe Sol Azteca is a good Mexican place, it has a nice outdoor patio for this time of year. http://www.solaztecarestaurants.com/

      Sapporo is a good Korean-Japanese restaurant. http://www.callorder.com/

Union Street is a good American sports bar/grill with a nice patio. http://www.unionst.com/unionstreet/

I like Coconut Cafe for Thai food. http://www.coconut-cafe.com/

      Sabra has middle-eastern/Lebanese food. http://www.sabrafoods.com/Sabra_Restaurant.htm

Jumbo Seafood is chinese, ok but pricey.

Sweet Tomatoes is a good pizza place. http://sweettomatoespizza.com/

Cafe St. Peterburg has a good reputation for Russian food, but I haven't been there yet. http://www.cafestpetersburg.com/

It's a nice town center and would be a fun place to walk about and have lunch or dinner somewhere.

There is also the new B Street where Pie used to be (same owners). Interesting looking menu and vibe, but no one on the boards seems to have tried it yet:

If you want Thai, I would recommend Amarin (Newton Corner) over Lam's. I would also avoid Sabra at all costs. The nicest meal in Newton is probably at Lumiere in West Newton. Good reviews also for Kouzina in Waban, although I have not been. None of these places is more than 5-10 minutes drive from Newton Center.

I have been to Kouzina several times. It is a short drive down Beacon Street and serves very good food with a Greek emphasis (but not standard Greek-restaurant fare). It is better than anything I have had in Newton Center.

We've tried B Street - Nice menu - Nice portions. I was in the mood for a juicy burger when I was there - would have enjoyed it too, had my son (CH-in-training) not stolen it from me. The 'side' of mac and cheese was a) delicious b) more than a meal for my 5 year old daughter.

Appetito for Italian. I haven't been there is several years, but I remember it as fine. There's another Italian there, too, but I can't remember the name of it.

You're probably thinking of Tartufo right across the street (and up the small hill) from Bill's Pizza. Been there once........didn't care for it.

Recently bought two coupons for dinner at Appetito. We hadn't been there in years and remembered it as very good. Not so good anymore. I don't recommend it at all.

tartufo is definitely the better choice. appetito is always running out of things on the menu, has sporadic service, and the food just isn't that great. i've been twice, and was pretty disappointed both times. there are so many other great places in newton that i just wouldn't really recommend appetito.

Bill's Pizza isn't fancy, but they have lots of very interesting toppings. We like to add the falafel to whatever we're getting.

Has anyone been to the new "B Street", in the space where Pie used to be? The makeover looks nice, as does the menu.

We did eat there once. Enjoyed it but the server was off-base when he described the lobster roll. He said it was hugh. Well, it was but the botton of the very large roll was stuffed with lettuce. A couple of people were eating the hamburger and it looked fantastic. My husband asked them how it was and they gave us 2-thumbs up. It was gigantic.

Same owner as Pie and they have a few of the desserts on the menu.

                    We will definitely go back.

BTW, they always seen to have 'daily' coupon on Groupon. Check it out.
