Southern California Mexican Food and IN N OUT Burger in 1 week!

A great week.

First of course....the obvious. The grandaddy of them all, the big Kahuna, the greatest cheeseburger in the world arrived this week to the greatest opening in their 60 some year history. Thank you Texas for embracing IN N OUT burger. It is win win for everyone concerned and of course many of you are finding out now why they are what they are. The best, the freshest, the nicest, the everythingest.

I had my first IN N OUT cheeseburger today in 2 years. We waited 2 hours in Frisco and it was all worth it. Just awesome how they can replicate that burger some 2000 miles away using all different vendors, etc. Great Job.

Now, for any of you other Southern California transplants who have been looking for California style "authentic" mexican food......ok...get ready.....WE FOUND IT! You remember......taco shells that are actually deep fried on site....not premade, preformed, prepackaged (taco bell style). Just about every Mexican restaurant in the metro plex seems to have those awful cheap shells.

And shredded beef tacos! Yep, not hamburger, not brisket, not goat's meat......just quality shredded beef. And what about real enchilada sauce? Huh?.....not Tex Mex Chili con carne. Excellent Beans, excellent rice. So. Cal Mexican style.

Ok, we found it. And it's no surprise, the owners are from where?..........San Diego CA. Ok..get your pen out. The place is Mariana's Taco Shop in Frisco. It's hard to find. It's behind a beauty shop at Fourth and Main in old town Frisco. It's clean, its simple, it's wonderful. It's Southern CA Mexican Food. Enjoy and tell em......Chowhound sent you.

Note the home cooked deep fried taco shells in the Yelp picture. Just like that. They have soft ones too but I like those home cooked deep fried. Not Taco Bell shells! Enjoy:

For climate and beauty, is there a better place in the world to live than San Diego? I don't think so.

      2. As someone who grew up in the San Diego area and recently moved to the DFW area after spending 9 years in Seattle the idea of good San Diego Mexican food really appeals to me. I might have to make a field trip to Frisco have some grub and then watch the Missions beat up on the Roughriders.

I think you'll like it. We have been searching for some authentic Southern Cal. Mexican Food since moving here in 09. This place has it and it makes sense.....they are from Southern CA! San Diego. And they know it because I asked them if they were aware this was all Tex Mex here....and they said yeah, we know.

I'd like to talk to them about opening another one. IN N OUT Burger is showing how many Californians have moved and are moving here. And they got to be looking for authentic Mex too. (Not bashing Tex Mex here, it's good too and it's what they are used to here)...

YUM. YUM. YUM. YUM!! Thank you Eddie!

DH and I are thinking of driving to Frisco every weekend from here to eternity.

He had the California burrito. I had the rolled tacos and beef taco combo plate. The rice was just as I remember it - on the dry side w/o a bunch of nasty canned veggies in it, the red hot sauce was awesome-not a huge fan of the tomatillo sauce- and the shredded beef taco with fresh fried corn tortilla shell (tears of joy, people, tears of joy) hit the spot!

The gentleman had Jamaica to drink and I had Horchata.

I can't wait for next weekend.

Glad you enjoyed it! Us ex Californians have to look for one another......LOL. Thanks, you made my day!

        2. Funny. San Diegan here. My fiance is in Dallas for work (guess you guys had a recent hail storm a couple weeks ago or something) and when I said I was going to get a carne asada burrito she tinged with jealousy. I think I might send her here (she's in Addison ... which might be a little too far)

It's slightly less out of her way than it is out of ours. Straight shot up the Tollway for her. Took me 30 minutes from Richardson. It's not the best taco shop in the whole world, but definitely a taste of my hometown.
