Stromboli

I went to the Naval school in Philly, while there got enjoy the great food in Philly. My favorite was the stromboli that was delivered to the base by " Ernie the stromboli man" I have tried to find out what the restaurant was but have had no luck. Any help would be great.

Can you narrow it down by telling us what years you were here? That might help.

I was in school there in 1984. I have also found another person looking for the same answer. they were really good !!! We did not order them for delivery, he woul just show up like a lunch wagon, then they would anounce his presence over the intercom. Thanks for any help.

If I had to guess, I would bet that he was purchasing them from a bakery and then re-selling them. In 1984, bakeries in South Philly selling stromboli that are still around today would include Cacia's, New York Bakery, and maybe Carangi's (not 100% sure if they were open in '84).

Were they as long as a loaf of bread, or a smaller, personal size?

          wasn't Sarcone's also selling stromboli in 84?

Probably, but I kept my suggestions to the ones closest to the Naval Base. I'm sure there are a few others that I missed.
