my brother and his wife and 2 little kids are moving to the area this summer for a new job at the mayo clinic. he's QUITE a foodie who has lived in DC. altlanta, and charlottesville, va recently and had fun exploring the scene. I would love to give him advice and gift certificates to explore the local food scene but know NOTHING about the area. Any suggestions for great places? Please!!! I'll help you out if you ever need recs in virginia! :)
A) Jacksonville is HUGE! There are great restaurants here, they just arent in the neighborhood.
At the beach, the best upscale dining is at Eleven South. Its terrific. Best all round goes to Beachside Seafood on 3rd St. Its a seafood market and restaurant that also makes the best cheesesteak in town. Cruisers and Col. Mustards for the best burgers in town.
In the city, BB's is the place to go for upscale dining, and for a real treat....Clark's Fish Camp in Mandarin. Its my favorite place in town, and especially for the 48oz. Prime Rib for $29, thats hard to beat. Its also quite a drive from Ponte Vedra, but its worth the trip.
Mojos is the only place in town for barbecue. Jax Beach
There's always a line at Angies Subs. Jax Beach
St Johns Town Center/Tinseltown has a concentration of good local and chain restaurants.

In Ponte Vedra, JJ's Bistro is one of our favorites- especially if they are into wine. We also really like Roy's , even though i know it is a chain- we always have great food there. IF you want something more down and dirty- head into JAX beach to Campichi Bay for Mexican
I am going to Ponte Vedra Inn & Club for a girl's trip and looking for some great lounges with wines by the glass/creative cocktails/small plates - maybe with music, brunch spots and restaurants for dinner. Last year we had a fabulous meal at Madure. Looking for foodie quality food AND a nice atmosphere. We love ethnic food. Not crazy about traditional French.
We will probably stop at bb's in San Marco on the way up but wanted to try to stay closer to PV. We would be willing to go to downtown or travel up to 30 minutes for the right spot.
Go to urbanspoon there are too many to mention. You dont have to go to an expensive overpriced restaurant to get good food.
Everyone will say Matthews, Medure, Orsay, Bistro Aix, Ruth Chris, etc.
Here are some good places I challenge you to go to that arent super pricy. Als Pizza, Burrito Gallery, Gumbo Ya Ya's, La Nopalera, Copelands, Lemongrass, Mojos BBQ, Mr Taco, French Pantry(arrive at 1130 if you want to get a table)....enjoy. All local and not chains(though they may have multiple locations)
