Piquillo pepper emergency!

Well, not an emergency, but an urgent request...

I've decided to serve Spanish wines at a weekend wine tasting, so I am scrambling for Spanish ingredients. Has anyone seen any canned or jarred piquillo peppers in town? I would love to approximate Solera's peppers stuffed with goat cheese.

So far, I've checked at Surdyk's - didn't see any, though I was moving quickly. (They did have Spanish chorizo, yay, and some awesome raw-milk Manchego.)

I reread the "Spanish groceries" thread, and will probably call Sur La Table and Whole Foods tomorrow morning. But I would love a more concrete lead for some luscious pequillo peppers!

I just thought I would bump this up since Costco in Eden Prairie has jarred piquillo peppers right now.

I buy fresh at El Burrito Mercado, they may have canned or jars ... Just another place to call or look.

I know Anne has already made her dish, but for others that are looking for piquillos, I saw some to day at Kowalski's in Uptown. They were in the gourmet cheese section next to the deli.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to make this dish again (goat-cheese-stuffed peppers) so I need to stock up on a few jars of pequillos. It's good to know that they ARE available in town.

Y'all are awesome - thanks! I ran out of time for shopping (too much "research" at the Zipp's and Solo Vino tastings this weekend) but I will be buying some piquillo peppers in the near future. My regular red peppers with goat cheese were a hit - with pequillos, they'd knock people's socks off! Thanks again.

Stopped in at Trader Joe's today, but they've discontinued the piquillo peppers. (A nice employee explained and apologized.) I'll keep looking - perhaps I'll even get out to Hopkins to try the food and groceries at Samba.

I have had good luck finding piquilla peppers at Trader Joe's, actually. They also have some decent oil-packed yellowfin tuna, and some good-for-the-price anchovies.

I've purchased piquillos at Surdyk's before. I wonder if they were out. If I remember correctly, they are along the wall and between the bread and olive oil near the capers, sardines, etc. I find that they have a nice selection of Spanish ingredients which means less web shopping for me at La Tienda. Surdyk's used to sell Jamon Iberico. An expensive indulgence, but worth it. I hope they bring it back.

As coincidence would have it, yesterday I bought a 32.45 oz jar [I think the technical term for the jar is big honkin'] of Del Destino Grilled Sweet Piquillo Peppers at the St. Louis Park Costco. If I remember correctly, it was about $5-6.

I called Bill's Imported Foods and they said that right now they only have one kind. Which to me means they usually have more than one.

So I'm not wrong ALL the time.

Yay! Thanks for the research! I'll be down that way this weekend, and will try to stop in at Bill's. The goat-cheese stuffed peppers I made last week were great with plain red peppers; bet they'll be awesome next time with the piquillos.

Kitchen Window had piquillo peppers on Thursday when I was there buying hot smoked paprika, but I am not sure if they had whole ones or only strips.
