The Smokepit - Montclair, NJ

Finally made it here today to the Smokepit, located on Bloomfield Ave. in Montclair. Had the pulled pork sandwich, smoky pork on good white bread, with sauces on the table for your heavy or light squirting. I went heavy. Very good smoky smell when you walk in, Lawrence was behind the counter and was very nice and knowledgeable about what he does. The prices are extremely fair for the amount of food offerred. I will defeinitely be back with co-workers to give them another shot. They have a webste and offer a lunch menu, so give it a try if in the area. You will not be disappointed.

No worries Jethro. Im assuming the other decent bbq place in Caldwell you mention is Hog Wild? if so, it looks like its ten minutes up Bloomfield ave from the Wood pit. May have to try both in one day! now if we just had some edible bbq here in Bergen county. For my fix lately, Ive been crossing the border up to Baileys BBq up in Blavelt NY. well worth the trip in my opinion.

Yes yogi, 10-15 minute ride will get you to both Hog Wild and Wood Pit. If I think of anything in Bergen/Eastern Passaic I'll let you know.

Hi Jethro, did you mean the Wood Pit on Bloomfield ave in Montclair? I actually passed by it earlier this week and wanted to go try it, unfortunately my mom wanted to go up a little further on Bloomfield ave and try Cuban Pete's, and overruled my BBQ itch. Im still kicking myself in the butt for listening to her lol. very disappointed with the cuban place. Next time im in Montclair im stopping at the wood pit as i have heard good things, and lord knows we need some good bbq spots up here in northern NJ.

Charge me with TWT (Typing While Tired). My boo boo, sorry. You should give it a shot soon yogi. Essex County has 2 decent BBQ places now, one in Montclair, the other in Caldwell.
