Lunch or dinner near JPL?

  • 7

JPL Open house this weekend-driving from the Westside. I heard the Open house is GREAT for kids.

Any good places within walking distance or a very short drive? It would be nice to walk instead for having to drive.for lunch.

OR maybe on the way home to West LA for dinner?

Thanks

  1. Not much in the way of walking distance (it's sort of in a out-of-the way location). Just about anything worth eating is on the other side of the 210 fwy on Foothill Blvd.

But if you're coming from the Westside, might as well drive a bit and maybe hit up SGV for some dim sum (at lunch) since that's what most people from the Westside seem to do, or just hang around for dinner. Good options would be Sea Harbour, Elite or 888. If you go for dinner, make sure to ask for the fresh abalone at Sea Harbour. Great stuff.

    1. All of two and half miles for a wonderful lunch at Julienne (one note - you say you are going on the "weekend" and if that is Sunday then Julienne is closed).

Google Maps says it's more like 7.7 miles.

Had Cal Tech in my mind when I guessed at the distance.

Geographically, JPL is a bit of a drive from CalTech...

      2. i used to live 1 block from jpl and know the area well. the closest food establishments are about 1 1/2 - 2 miles west along foothill blvd. taylors, dish, chipotle, several mexican, sushi, pizza, etc. nothing really great, but all edible. even a conrad's coffee shop that has outstanding fried chicken.

can also go about five miles west (foothill to verdugo to honolulu) and wind up in montrose village which also has a decent selection.

going directly east takes you into northwest pasadena and altadena. questionable areas, but there is a great gelato place called bulgarini's.

ps: the jpl open house is great! enjoy.

I went west along foothill blvd. saw a mexican (across the street from Goodyear tire) place with a few folks outside leaving and gave it a try. We got a 2-2 item combos and a kids chicken taco. It was fine (nothing really great, but all edible exactly!)

Your right--the open house was a great (a lot of folks and some long lines though)
