Restaurant suggestions for College Graduation dinner in South Bay Area?

Looking for a restaurant in the South Bay Area (namely Los Gatos, but open to any suggestions!) that has a great room/area to host a dinner for 15 people. Would appreciate any suggestions!

    1. How about Dio Deka? Their food is wonderful and they have rooms available for private parties. Il Fornaio in downtown San Jose is another place with decent food and private rooms. I also think Cafe Viva, on Los Gatos Blvd. would be another good suggestion.

210 E. Main Street, Los Gatos, CA 95030

Everyone I know who has been to Dio Deka has the same two comments: "Wow, it is excellent in every regard" and "wow, I'm a lot poorer." But college graduation is a big deal, so that second one may not be an issue.

True enough on both points, but cost was not mentioned by the OP, hence the suggestion.

And I also want to add that I was slightly mistaken about my third suggestion - it's called Viva!

Dio Deko sounds great because we will be staying in Los Gatos! I'd prefer not to do it in San Jose and looking for places that are small, intimate and cozy...any other suggestions would be great in case Dio Deko doesn't work out?

The main dining room at Dio Deka is anything but intimate and cozy, but I don't know anything about their private room. Personally I prefer Viva Los Gatos, but once again I don't know their private room setup.

      2. It's been awhile but we always enjoyed The Basin in Saratoga which is only 10 min away. They have a private room as well as a patio area. Yelp reviews seem mostly favorable.

        1. The Basin is lovely and special while still being a nice neighborhood place (in a very expensive neighborhood!) Very easy to get to from Los Gatos.

I like NIck's on Main in Los Gatos. Your party will probably fill half the tiny dining room. It is special enough for a graduation. The chef will come out and talk to each table. The appetizers are lovely. Viva is more a family style restaurant for say, a birthday party.

            Ok, so far we have
            1. Dio Deko
            2. Viva
            3. The Basin
            4. Nick's on Main

If you guys can provide any more info on what you know about their private rooms/the food/service that would be great. I REALLY appreciate all the help! Also, if there are any more suggestions, that would be awesome as well :)

I believe Manresa has some kind of large back room area, as I've seen a group standing up having drinks there then settle down to dinner, but price will likely be a concern.

I watched a family of four, with a teen and a preteen, flush a thousand dollars down the tubes at Manresa as the kids made hideous faces at pretty much every dish on the tasting menu. I thought they would pass out when they saw the egg. It was kind of funny in a Silicon Valley way.

I've seen a large group take the entire center of Nick's. I've seen couples turned away. You really need reservations.

There is a restaurant in Old Town Los Gatos, California Cafe with a private dining area. NIce atmosphere, good service and food. Very relaxing spot.

              2. re: caiters4

I highly doubt that Nick's will accommodate a large group - the restaurant is very small and does not having a private room. I think that you would be making a mistake trying to decide where to book this party just based on a few CH comments - go check these places out for yourself in order to decide if they're the right fit for your party. They are each quite different.

I agree-I am using this as a way to narrow down my choices, and then plan out scoping the restaurants out! Really appreciate the suggestions and advice, if you have anymmore I'll be checking. Has anyone tried the wine bar/restaurant in the "strip mall" right near the Starbucks? Think it might be called EOS?
