Private dining for 10-15 pp on Eat Street (or nearby) in early June

Hello Hounds, my work group will be in this great food city for (what else?) a conference in early June. We're looking to host about 10-15 pp within walking distance of the convention center. From previous posts, I've identified Gangchen, Jasmine 26 and The King and Thai as potential spots. However, I haven't read any reviews of either family-sized group or private dining experiences at these places. I'm also open to more suggestions!

Here are the parameters:
10-15 adults (21+ older)
Fixed menu preferred
Cost $15-$20 pp
Private dining area preferred
Reasonable walking distance from CC

Thanks in advance Hounds!

  1. This very recent thread should help:

    1. i think k&i thai is over your budget, or pushing it. you state everyone is 21+, so i wonder: does your group want full alcohol/beer&wine, & is this inside or outside the budget? time of day: will this be a lunch meal, or dinner? there are quite a few HH type deals downtown that your group might take advantage of, if you're thinking about doing dinner.

      1. You have a pretty tall order at that price point and walking distance to the CC. Jasmine is a hike and both Jasmine and Gangchen are a walk in a neighborhood non city dwellers might find uncomfortable.

Gangchen is one of my group's favorite dives. It is very affordable and if your group has a sense of humor to handle the service issues, the food has always been good. (some items better than others.)

The service has ranged from fabulous to ridiculously bad. Last week, we had a waiter/bartender combo where neither spoke enough English to handle our drink order....so we finally pointed at a bottle of wine (which they were out of) so we tried again and finally got something almost drinkable.

It has no fine dining ambiance and no private space though it is rarely very full. The other issue is even for a group of 5, we don't always get our food at the same time, a group of 15 might be a real challenge. (I really like the place and don't mean to suggest it is bad, just not a great fit for your needs.)

I might suggest you think about heading the other direction...more pleasant walking. I have never been to Dancing Ganesha, not sure if their price point is a match.

I like Eli's on Hennepin, but no private dining. Their menu is high end bar food.

There is always Brit's. Nice private space, OK food, but not "Minnesota special" particularly.

        Good luck.
