Rice varieties in Winnipeg?

Hello, Chowhounds!

I am on the lookout for several different types of rice to add to my growing collection, and would appreciate any help in locating them. I am especially wanting to find Bomba or another calasparra type. I am also looking for Camargue Red rice, and Gobindavog. So far I have searched the shelves of Dino's, DeLuca's, and La Grotta (on taylor). I would prefer not to order online, if that can be avoided.
Thank you!

Good afternoon. Wanted to let you know that we have brought in the Bobma Rice from Spain for a few of the restaurants in the city. There have not been any customer requested for it in the retail store until now. We should have another order coming in in about 2 weeks and I will make sure a case gets sent to the retail location.

    Have a great day!

I remember seeing different types of rice at the Portuguese store on. . . William? They had the type used for Portuguese-style paella (can't remember what it's called in Portuguese)

Thanks for the suggestions, all! I knew I could count on you! I'll give them a shot. Although at this point, I'm contemplating an attempt at growing my own rice in the paddy-like swamp that is my backyard........

Don't forget Stephens & Andrews which is now called something else (initials+Andrews or initials+Stephens) on Academy. They're terribly overpriced, but they may have some different types of rice, too.

eta--also check out bulk barn and scoop&weigh. Some products don't turn over as frequently, though, so buyer beware. Old rice is particularly ick, imo.

        Hi Allegra,

It's not a rice per se, but why don't you check out Cavena Nuda - the rice of the prairies! It's really a whole oat product but it makes a nice pilaf when mixed with regular basmati. You can get it at Marcello's meats on Meadowood. Rather than following the instructions on the bottle I precook the cavena for about 10 minutes before adding the basmati - otherwise the basmati gets mushy before the cavena fully cooks....

As for Bomba - no idea - let me know if you find any.

Try Home Sense and/or Winners as they often carry paella rices among others.
