Where's a good place for an Intimate, Beautiful, Tasty Rehearsal Dinner party ?

We're looking for a restaurant for a wedding rehearsal dinner on Friday, June 17th. About 20-25 people, including grandparents and some folks from overseas. The families will be meeting each other for the first time, so we'd like to be able to talk and mingle (maybe a private room?) Ideal would be some proximity to the ocean or beautiful view or Califonia ambience. Fresh, delicious, healthy food. Moderate price. San Diego proper or North County.

How about Mr. A's? We had our "out of town/rehearsalll dinner" for about 40 there. It was really good, Bertrand really took care of us! The view is amazing and all the East Coasters loved it! They will work with you on a special menu.

Piatti patio is a good call, no ocean view, but it feels like you are in someone's beautiful, private, garden patio. Moderate prices too.

          Sista..
          Where have you been?
We can send them up to your fave, Clay's..hee hee

Didn't you just dine at the Shores...did you see how they gussied up that oceanfront patio in the gallery photos..to be honest, I like the food better at the Shores than the Marine Room..(gasp)!

          Hey G..
Love Piatti's but wondering if they would have to reserve the whole patio (fee?), which I agree is like dining in someone's lovely garden patio.
You can hear and smell the ocean from there..does that count?

          BTW..we miss you girl..

aw, thanks girl, i miss all of you too :)

i assumed they would need (or want) to reserve the entire patio, but the OP did mention the possibility of a private room so i figure it's pretty much the same thing. IMO that patio is going to give her the biggest bang for her buck in terms of lovely setting, ocean air, and pretty good food. they can *see* the ocean on the way there or go for a stroll after dinner ;)

it's really too bad Trattoria Acqua closed, that would have been perfect.

The Shores restaurant is oceanfront and moderate price and you could do the outside patio with heaters or they could do an area inside for your group..work a 3-4 course meal for a better price.
Lisa Redwine does a great job as the GM and wine expert.
Crab Catcher in La Jolla has a private rooms and you can do the 'sunset special' for a better price than off the menu...they have underground parking which is a good thing in downtown LJ.

Both restaurants have rather underwhelming food.

Then name me a moderately priced 'ocean or beautiful view or Califonia ambience' restaurant?
The food in both is average to above average and I think it would be a good fit for the OP...imho.
Please don't tell the OP that only food in West LA or Berlin would suffice..
              ; )

The La Valencia is perfect, but then again I don't think it would be considered moderate

I don't think this combination exists. You either have good food (Kitchen 1540, Blanca, George's) and no ocean view or ocean view and lousy food. And I don't think that Crab Catcher and Shores have even average food. There are many places like even Piatti who have much better food.

If the Vigilucci's in La Jolla is anything like the one in Carlsbad, the food is really average, at a generous best.

              Better options are:
Addison (nice views of the golf course below). The plus is that it's in a resort, so your guests could stay there as well.
              George's California Modern (downstairs location)
Blanca (private room might be a bit tight, but worth asking). No views though.
Mister A's can curtain off sections of their dining room. Great views. I have not eaten there for a very long time, so someone else needs to vouch for their food.

While the food isn't "exceptional", we had our rehearsal dinner at Vigilucci's in La Jolla. We had a beautiful private room with a bar, and the service was great. They can do a fixed menu with different options for everyone. It was really gorgeous!

The Bali Hai has a smaller private dining room upstairs, now. Can't beat the view there!
