When I look down the list of restaurant winners, I really feel like there is a restaurant mafia -- especially in NY.

Utterly. These awards are an insider's game.

I recognized hardly any names on the list except two that I'm glad were awarded: Bittman for "Salt" and Outstanding Chef Award, Jose Andres

FYI it is Bitterman...not Mark Bittman.

nonon Not "Bittman" for Salt! BittERman for "Salted."

I stand corrected!
I'll change my posting to read that I recognized hardly any names, except one who(m) I'm glad was awarded: Outstanding Chef Award, Jose Andres.
Thanks so much.

All those nominees are truly outstanding, but I was rooting for Suzanne Goin. She is a rock-star chef, but not as well known because she hasn't been on Next iron Chef or TCM. She's busy running 3 restaurants in LA.

Good recipe!!! Wish I had a stove like that, that absorbs the spillovers.
Coincidental to my remakrs about "Bittman," she was on an episode of Bittman (not Bitterman :))) show "Bittman takes on America's Chefs."
I remember her name now; as I do genealogy, and I have the name, Goin in my heritage.
Thanks for posting, because I'll be on the look-out for more information on her and her cuisine/cooking.

Congrats to Tony Maws of Craigie on Main in Cambridge, MA for Best Chef - Northeast. Also pleased to see Top Chef and Avec Eric get the television show awards, of course. :-)

I would have nominated you for best recapper, Linda!

LOL! Awwww, shucks - thanks C.Ham! Now I'm definitely going to have to get a laptop to be able to deal with TC9 - TV downstairs, current computer upstairs!

I saw most of the winners, but seriously, they gave an award to a fake person?? Kinda lame, I feel like the Beard awards have gone downhill for the past few years.
