Looking for bistro style restaurants that seat less than 30 people in Montreal

Hi everyone

My brother-in-law owns a small restaurant in Saskatchewan and has come to Montreal on a "research" trip to look for inspiration for his place. He has a small, up-scale business and would love to see what others are doing here with their small restaurants.

Could you recommend small, bistro-style restaurants that seat less than 30 people? We have a car so are able to get around the greater Montreal area. Would love to keep the price below 40$ per main course.

Sorry if this has come up before. I didn't find it in my search, as the search criteria is too broad.

TIA

  1. Grenadine is the smallest I can think of. Lesley Chesterman reviewed it last week : http://www.montrealgazette.com/life/F...

I've never been, but Le Chien Fumant seems pretty small.

    Maybe Le Jurançon too.

    Le Chien Fumant

    1. Marche 27 and P'tit Plateau are both around 30 seats. As are Tuck Shop and Montee du Lait.

      1. All our restaurants fall into that category....okay maybe not ALL like the steakhouses but most of our good restos fall into the bistro-style; we don't have many large seating restaurants any more.

        1. Bistro Bienville and La Porte

          1. As much as I like APdC, I don't think it qualify as a small 30 seats or less bistro.

            1. So many restaurants! Here are some that are bistro-ish (though some might not feel the same way about this classification):

Joe Beef (though it is currently expanding) and next-door Liverpool House
              Chien Fumant
Cinquieme Peche would have been perfect but they are relocating
              Lawrence
              Mas Cuisine
Monsieur B or Les Infideles or Les Heritiers (all the same restaurant consortium)
Prunelle (though food is hit-and-miss and it might be slightly over 30 seats, I like the atmosphere enough to recommend it)
Cocagne (the opposite of above: food is great but the space is not)
              Pintxo

And so many others!! Maybe find pictures online to figure out which might be most inspiring. I'd suggest Chien Fumant..
