I'll second the recommendations of Passage to India, Mia's, and Faryab--all within a few yards of each other on Cordell Ave. Haandi on Fairmont is also good Indian--they have a very good lunch buffet with several vegetarian choices. The vegetarian choices at Passage to India are unique--the chef has three or four choices from four different regions of India.

Freddy's Lobster And Clams. Just got back from lunch there. First day opened. It is off Cordell Street. in Bethesda. I was impressed. Excellent hot lobster roll (buttered) but mayo option, too. Good fries.
Assagi Mozerella (Italian)
Moby DIck (kabob place-local chain-really good)
Rice Paddies Grill (Vietnamese)
Raku (Asian fusion- trendy.)
Fresh Grill (burgers)

I also like Matuba, have been going there for years.
Mia's and Passage to India, both down the street.
Cesco on the next block of Cordell.
Foong Lin for Chinese
Jaleo for tapas-----

Passage to India on Cordell Ave. It's really very good. You aren't far from Trader Joes for small things to pick up if you need to for your room. I've heard good things about the Afghan restuarant on Cordell as well. Take the metro one stop to Friendship Heights where Lia's is and is very good.

re: Jeserf
Across the street from Lia's @Friendship Heights metro is the Whole Foods market- they have a pretty big selection at the food bar- hold , cold, sandwiches, pizza, sushi, etc.
There's also Taylor Gourmet for sandwiches and Vace for excellent pizza by the slice.
What about Black's and GRapeseed too

re: Jeserf
Another nod for Passage to India. If you go, make sure you order the pickles and spices from the last page of the menu.
Faryab for Afghan, get the buranee (crispy pastry triangles filled with leek) and the stewed pumpkin.
Also another vote for Vace pizza, carryout only, a unique pie. I recommend ordering a whole pie with onions, olives, and peppers. Though I'm guessing you are not bereft of pizza in Joisey.
Jaleo is an exceptional restaurant for a vegetarian. I stick almost exclusively to the vegetables there.
