has anyone been to "HOTDOG GUYSss"?

The restaurant with perhaps the worst name has opened in the Faubourg with the promise of gourmet hot dogs. My assumption is that they are terrible but please, somebody tell me otherwise.

I didn't order anything there, because they couldn't tell me the brand of hot dog franks they're using. Not sure if it's because they don't know, or they don't want to tell me.

My friend from New York was just explaining that these are all the rave right now... her friend is moving to Montreal this summer and she'd asked me if there were any gorumet dog restos where they could buy her gift certificates. I had no idea what she was talking about. I guess these will be the new gorumet a-b-c-d-e-f-g-burger trend for hot dogs this summer. I'm sure six more will pop up in various locations downtown and throughout the Plateau within the next 4 months.

I'd hardly call "HOTDOG GUYSss" trendy

I didn't mean this particular restaurant/chain; I've never seen or heard of it before.. I was just commenting on how a friend of mine from New York had asked me about gourmet hot dog restaurants this past weekend (she wanted to buy some gift certs for a friend moving to the city this summer) and I had no clue what she was talking about. She explained that they were all over NYC now. So it's timely to see this thread. I'm not suggesting this place is trendy, but I'm betting that this will be the new thing in Montreal this summer... just like fancy hamburger counters with way too many toppings. Hopefully it's executed better though.

perhaps, but this establishment is not indicative of any trend. elderly people seem to be running this place haphazardly in the spot that has housed hot dog and hamburger restaurants in the past. I see no indication of any gourmet hot dog restaurant opening here in the near future. New York has a hot dog eating culture - for us it is unwholesome steame. You can't even buy a decent packaged dog in the store (w/ the exception of the olympia brand at costco)

When I was there last week, there was 2 young guys running Hot Dog Guyss. All they both tell me, it's all beef. It's Angus beef, but everybody these days is calling their beef Angus beef.

i just went by - looked, didn't eat
their buns are by POM. I asked what
sort of hotdogs they use - the guy told me they are
all beef angus. When i asked what brand they use
he said he can't tell me.
also, it looked to me like they were pulling their dogs from a steamer

Yep, that's the response I got when I asked them about their hotdogs(two young guys working there).

Really? My good friend tried it yesterday and said it was awful. Told me the toppings were horrible and the hot dog was store bought plus the buns are regular store bought buns.He started off with one that had smoked meat on it and apparently it was soo dry he had the guy throw it out and replace it with mushrooms which ended up being no better since they were bottled. For them to be succesful I think they should bake their own buns and make their own hot dogs from scratch, otherwise its just a hot dog and its summer time so I can so easily just bbq one myself! Here is a picture of it.

Hot Dog Guyss are gone(unless they have relocated)? Grumman 78 is taking over their space at Faubourg food court.

That's good news. If someone can anchor the revitalization of that food court, it's Grumman.

Overpriced tacos will not be popular with students.

it isn't only students at the faubourg. the faubourg is a high rise office tower in the middle of downtown.

My husband and I are students and we are over the moon about this opening! And I really can't say their tacos are over-priced. The mexican food-court restaurants are about the same price, except not as good.
