French in Queens?

missmasala May 9, 2011 09:22 AM

I'm looking for a good french bistro/restaurant (not too expensive) in queens for this wed. It's my daughter's birthday and she will already be in flushing after school and she has requested french food.

I need a place that is fairly easily accessible by public transportation as others will be joining us.

The only place I know of at the moment is Tournesol in LIC, but there must be others, maybe in Astoria?

Anyone have any good suggestions? Also, if anyone's been to Tournesol recently, can they let me know if it's still decent?

thanks!

Not only is Tournesol decent, it is the best French bistro in Queens. Last month I hosted a birthday party for 35 at Tournesol and the service was impeccable, timely, organized.

The food was wonderful with excellent portions for hearty eaters. Their grilled calamares are smoky, tender, and well flavored (although a bit heavy on the salt), onion soup was a hit. The best entrees were the seared trout almondine, grilled chicken and the braised lamb. The desserts were all well received.

Everyone had a fantastic experience, and some family friends brought their friends the very next week due to how well received the food was.

You might consider Bristro 33 (walkable from Q/N Ditmars stop) and L'Artiste (walkable from Steinway M/R stop) for a fusiony and modern takes, respectively, on classic French cooking.
