Cliffside Park or Guttenberg area, seeking

A decent place for a Friday evening dinner, up on the hill kind of place, can anyone speak for Benito, or Villa Amalfi, or something better?

VA is OK. Good food. I kind of feel it has jumped the shark a bit, but many people still enjoy it. If you are looking for something "up the hill" why not look at Englewood Cliffs? The Assembly, Cafe Italiano, The Cliffs Steakhouse, and there are a few more. There is also David's in Cliffside Park. I have been meaning to go back there for a long time now. Last time I was there is was very good.

I really like Benito. The service is excellent and will stear you to what is fresh and exccellent. I've gone back on a number of occasions and it never disappoints..

There's also another hot-spot, I believe in Edgewater, that several friends had been talking about, but I can't remember the name. A real hot-spot. I am just drawing a real mental blank here.

No, LOL. I don't remember if it's a new/newer place or what, but it's a real hot-spot. One person described it as the home of the beautiful people. I am fairly certain it's Edgewater. This is killing my brain!!! LOL.

Edgewater is not exactly a location for hot spots...By "hot spot", do you mean a place that attracts Sopranos wannabees? Or is it a younger, hipper crowd of BP's?

yeah, i'm totally stumped on this one, and that doesn't happen very often :) the only new-ish restaurant in Edgewater that comes to mind is Shahrzad, and that's hardly a scene.

Villa Amalfi is nice and the food is good. I was there for a small wedding.
There is also Le Jardin www.lejardinnj.com
It is a french restaurant in Edgewater with a view of NYC.

Just looove Rumba Cubana, in North Bergen, 75th and Broadway. Exceptional Cuban cuisine, nice ambience as well.
