Went to EMP 2 nights ago, third time there but first since the menu renovation and its 4th NYT star. Have to say I was underwhelmed. While the food was expertly prepared, pretty to look at, and the service was up to the standard Danny Meyer 'welcome home' style, I can't say I left feeling like I ate anything truly memorable. Between my wife and myself, we sampled half of the available menu, and while we certainly enjoyed our meal, nothing really blew us away. Have to say that if I'm going to blow that kind of money on a meal, next time I'll do it at Jean Georges or Le Bernadin, both of which routinely serve up food with a bit more of a 'wow' factor at a similar price point. Can't say I cared for the coy little menu either, and the waitstaff's response to our inquiries with a cryptic, "our chef likes to surprise you". feels a bit gimmicky.
is it me?

  1. That was pretty much my experience a few months ago:

I used to love EMP, but now I feel it is overpriced, and I prefer to choose my dishes from a menu that describes them in detail. There are many on this board who will defend it to the death and pick apart your criticism. Get ready to be flamed.

    1. EMP is a nice place, but I agree that it's more about presentation and service rather than culinary originality.
