I am not a big urth fan but I must say they have great pies and cakes. The banana cream is fresh and good but my favorite is their pumpkin pie which deserves it's own post all together. thick graham cracker crust, thick and creamy pumpkin filling , dip a bite in the freshly whipped cream they serve with it and you will die and go to heaven. even those that dislike pumpkin pie will be converted.

Pie 'n Burger in Pasadena, if you make them toss the meringue and add the excellent real whipped cream.

yep, it is, asked them it scrape off the meringue and replace it with with cream a little over a week ago, but it's kind of a sloppy mess once they do that. sort of like mess hall food,
still prefer the pan, or clementine, or for a strech the banana pudding at baby blues,
the peach pie on the other hand at pie n burger is truly delicious.

clementine in century city has great banana cream pie, truly oustanding with that great fresh whippped cream, a little lighter than apple pan's but all the better for it. good stuff, watch out for all the darn construction.
and if your banana pie, request can be extended a little, the banana pudding at Baby Blues BBQ is tremendous, sort of like banana-infused fresh whipped cream. extraordinary stuff.›1 Reply -
I think Clementine (1751 Ensley Ave., (310) 552-1080) does a pretty good bcp; someone brought one to our house for Thanksgiving, and it was excellent. Great ingredients, not too sweet, with a fine crust and mellow banana flavor. Not sure if they sell slices, or if it's a special order item or what, but if you're on a quest to try the best bcp's in the city, this place should be on your list. (And, let me say, if you are on such a quest, you have my admiration and respect.)

re: David Kahn
i think you beat me to it. by a matter of milliseconds.
the bana craem pie at clementine is offered i think a couple times a week (the other times it's usually key lime pie or chocolate cream pie) and all of them are available by the slice. about 4.5 or 5 buckaroos per slice, about 26 bukcs a whole pie.
you can special order a whole pie.-

re: Yakitiyak
it's a pretty good pie, now if you feel that if the pie is incrementally better and you have to pay like 3 times the cost then that's fine.
it's just like a wine costing 15 bucks retail, and another bottle that is pretty darn good costing 100 bucks, is the 100$ bottle that much better, yes and no, just more subtel nuancy maybe.
anyways, to answere your question, sort of i don't particularly care for marie's c's pies, but on the other hand clementine's are pretty darn good along with the apple pan.

re: kevin
They sell slices when they have it and they also have mini versions that are great for two or even three (light) eaters.
Marie Callendar's pies are adequate but you get what you pay for with a packaged mix-filled tasting and a weird hydro-stravaganza crust.
The Clementine version features a homemade graham cracker crust and a true custard filling. The recipe is floating around. It tastes like a homemade pie and for banana cream pie, that is a great compliment.
If you don't taste a difference than don't buy the more expensive pie.

Susina Bakery has the most delectable banana cream pies. They are small (made for one, or two to share). There is a thin layer of chocolate and a touch of caramel hidden at the bottom. The filling is sooo banana-y, and the cream is soo fresh. Mmmmmm.
