Extra cream chess on R and D bagel/lox sandwich?
I recall various postings about protocol for dealing with Katz counter people. What about R and D? Are requests also protocol-bound (if so, what do I need to say?)? Oor if I ask for more cream cheese on my bagel (maybe not authentic but I like it better), will they just do so, whether at a price or not?

The only special request i could think of that I would make more often at R and D (if i ordered sandwiches there which i avoid) would be: 1. use this bagel i brought in myself, 2. please slice my tomato thick enough that i cannot read the times through it (ive found the guys use the same "thinner is better" approach to tomatoes that they do with the lox, which works great on salmon but i prefer my tomatoes a bit more substantial).

As nice as the counter people are at Russ & Daughter, I can't imagine they would take kindly to someone bringing in a bagel from elsewhere and asking that it be used instead of R&D's bagels -- which, btw, I think are excellent. Besides, there's probably some Health Dept. rule against doing it.
