Chicago's Dim Sum, and Vietnamese restaurants

Coming back to Chicago this weekend and want to do it Asian style (well...after we blew all our cmoney on steakhouses and at the Trump last weekend.) Had a ton of fun last time with everyone's recs.

Here is a list of what we are looking for. Thanks in advance :-)

1/ Vietnamese pho for Sat dinner
Our friend suggests Hoang Cafe on Argyle. Agree? Disagree?

2/ Dim Sum Sun brunch
Been to Phoenix, very good! Any advice on avoiding crowds? Do they take reservations?

Anything else Asian you think is worth a visit too is much much appreciated!

  1. Can't help you on Dim Sum, but you're definitely in the right area for Pho. Everyone seems to have a personal favorite ( I usually see Tank, Pho 777, and Pho 888 mentioned) My personal choice is Tank.

    Pho 777
    1065 W Argyle St, Chicago, IL 60640

Besides tose mentioned, the Pho shop just down from Tai Nam Grocery in that same "internal strip" off Broadway is pretty good too.

    2. Re: Phoenix: go early to avoid a long wait. Get there before 10.

Besides Phoenix for dim sum, consider Shui Wah or Happy Chef - both in that complex off Archer diagonally across from Phoenix. These use order cards.

      1. Phoenix

We go on Saturdays just before 10. It's the sweet spot, not crowded yet, but there will be a line forming as we leave.

The benefit at that time is as you are seated, it is still order off of menu time. The place mats are big picture menus and you can pick you favorites and have them cooked to order. As your food arrives, the carts start coming out and you can supplement your order.

We typically order 4-5 dishes and than get the rest from the carts.

Don't forget, if you drive, there is a huge parking lot by the red line and only two dollars (after validation) to park.
