Oyster Bar and fresh crab in DC or NOVA

suzieq4 May 5, 2011 07:22 PM

We will be visiting our daughter in Washington, DC next week and love fresh oysters and crab - especially soft shell crab. We have eaten at Hank's Oyster Bar which is very nice. Does anyone have any other ideas on where to eat?

A lot of places are starting to carry soft shells on the menu, I know for certain both Corduroy and Dino have them right now. I would bet Fiola might have them right now too, and maybe Equinox. Add Blacksalt to that list, as well as, they would have oysters too.

For oysters- Old Ebbitt Grill is actually a great place to get them. They have their raw bar 1/2 price at certain happy hours too. A friend said that recently Hook had a good selection.

Soft shell depends on season and availability, so you'll usually see it on a specials menu. But for oysters (and maybe soft shells, who knows?) the new Senarts on Barracks Row might be up your alley: http://senartsdc.com/index.shtml

So is Maine Avenue the best place/most economic place to get decent soft shells this time of year? Looking to pick up some for Moms Day and cook them at home...

You can usually get them there and they will clean them for you if you ask. You can also check Franks at the Jessup Fish Market.
