Airplane Food

HELP....we will be on a plane with two little kids for 5 hours. Need to find a place where I can get some good food to take on the airplane that does not need to be re-heated and will travel well. The flight leaves at 8am so I need to get it the day before.

My two chow pups' stomach and the rest of the 200+ passengers on the airplane thank you in adavance.

    1. Is one to assume your leaving from LAX?

I should have mentioned we are leaving from Long beach

The last I checked -- and you'll want to confirm this because it was a couple of years ago -- one of the Takeout Taxi-type places (they change names so often I can't keep track) advertised that they would meet you at the airport with your food for the usual delivery price.

If you pick it up the night before you need something that will stay good overnight and through the next morning. What town is best for you to pick it up?

anywhere in LA and SGV. Thanks

In Alhambra just ½ block South of Main St. is Lovebirds. These sandwiches are custom made to your order in every detail. The breads are all outstanding – Seven Grain, Sour Dough, Rye, Jewish Egg, Pumpernickel, French Roll, Ciabatta, Baguette, Bagel, Pita and Butter Croissant. I have tried them all because several parties I have attended had big platters of sandwiches from Lovebirds all cut in half. Everyone was trying half of everything. The meats are very fresh and include Italian Deli meats, Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef, Corned Beef and more. Every sandwich has Mayo, Lettuce and Tomato so be sure to have all that put on the side in a separate container. Otherwise the bread will soak up the moisture resulting in a soggy sandwich of wilted lettuce and dry tomato. Since the bread is very fresh the sandwich will keep well overnight in your refrigerator. What ever you buy do not forget to take it with you. Check out the link below.

                      • Have you tried Organic To Go? Neither have I, but it seems to fit your bill (pre-packaged, grab-and-go meals and snacks). There's one on Wilshire near Curson (across from the Tar Pits). I've been wanting to try it, but their hours don't match my work schedule.

                          1. I usually get a sandwhich from subway for the flight. If you get it the night before I'd advise that you get it with out oil and vinegar to avoid mush the next day. But otherwise, it is easy, quick, and innocuous enought that you won't be belching all over the passengers in front of you. Always unpleasant. I wish you safe and fun travels!

                              1. I have experience in traveling with two small chowers - currently ages 1 1/2 and 3 1/2. The key is not really what meal to bring, but to have a large variety of snacks. I go to whole foods and stock up on snack sized bags of crackers, cookies, fruit, fruit snacks, cheese, yogurt, and juice boxes. The diversity of pulling out something new every so often seems to entertain them. You could always try something like veggie sushi too - they love to dip. Also check out the whole foods web site. I just discovered their menu/lunch suggestions for kids - great reccomendations. Good luck! And way to go. I love traveling with kids.

Thanks ... I will check out Whole Foods.

I have the snack thing already but I need some real food as well.
