Good eats near airport

Any place near the airport to get good food late-ish on a Saturday night (around 10 pm)? Any kind of cuisine is OK, any price range; just want something close as we'll be hungry when we get to town. TIA!

  1. At that hour, you might as well just head closer to town. Still on the east side you got Lucky Strike for Chinese or Montage under the Morrison Bridge for French. You could go to Mississippi, or you could hit the food carts at 12th and Madison.

We were thinking about trying to rent a car, stay at a hotel close to the airport, and visit other parts of the state, then return for a few days to visit Portland before departing OR. We are actually landing around 8:00, but I figured it would take some time to actually make it to somewhere to eat.

If the original idea isn't workable (nowhere close to the airport with good chow), then we can always come up with plan b. Any ideas are welcomed!

If you do stay near the airport, a big 15 minutes from the center of town by car and a longer trip but easy on light rail, Country Cat is where I'd suggest you go for dinner. http://www.thecountrycat.net/

But, honestly, you could still rent a car and stay closer in. A lot of downtown hotels offer deals on rates, packages with parking, etc. There are car rental places in downtown too, if you wanted to do that. Many of them can be found on our visitors' site, which is pretty good for a mid-sized city like Portland: http://www.travelportland.com/

The traffic here is just not as bad as it is in places like Seattle and other larger cities, and you can get to lots of places on the light rail, streetcar and by bus, which is free in our downtown "fareless square" area. If you stay by the airport, you get no feel for the city, and you really don't gain much by using that location as a jumping off point for your trips. My advice is to check out your other options before deciding on doing that.

      2. On the same block as Country Cat, the Observatory is also a fun place to eat, but Country Cat is great.
