Did Sally Lings close?

  • 9

Just wondering if anyone knows if Sally Lings in Fort Lee has closed. The number that I have for them is disconnected and I am told that it looks dark . The place was a little strange when they started to share space with the CoffeeTree cafe that had gotten evicted from the space next door.

  1. They appear in the health inspection section of the newspaper almost every week, not in a positive light, maybe they were forced to close.

    1. Apparently they closed due to the rent being high. So, I now have to find another place. Anyone have suggestions?

Lotus Cafe, just off Rte 4 in the Home Depot Shopping center in North Hackensack. (Behind Riverside Square). One of the few acceptable Chinese restos in Bergen.

You should find the food at Lotus far superior to that at Sally Ling's, IMO.

We know about Lotus but were trying to be closer to Fort Lee. Quite frankly, I find the take out at Lotus to be better than the "eat in". My in laws were regular customers at Lotus.

Chinese food in NJ is generally AWFUL. They take the same sauce ingredients and adjust them slightly, use different proteins and vegetables, and that's the dish.

Maybe it's easier for you to head in the other direction; Fu Sing, Broadway and 176th, isn't bad, but IMO Lotus is better.

BTW, Lotus is about 7 minutes by car from Fort Lee...

      2. I was never a big fan after this changed from the original Look See. I don't remember the stories about the change in ownership/management, but after this there was a change in my opinion -- in service, quality of food, etc.

I recall passing a LookSee on Rt 17 South in Ramsey, but I don't know if it's still there. But I'd still prefer Lotus...

Yes, there is a Look See there. Right off 17, on the Franklin Turnpike over-ramp.

BYO, food is good. Service fair. Not anything like the original Look See in Fort Lee.

        2. Sally Lings was our regular Chinese restaurant so we have been looking for a place to go also. We just tried Duck KIng in Edgewater and it was delicious. Johns of Shanghai used to be in this location. We had the Peking Duck, and cleaned the plate! My kids loved the beef and broccoli. We also absolutely love Petit Sous Chow in Cliffside Park, but there is always a tremendous wait.
