re: digga
Definitely not, this is a second project. From everything they've said, there is no indication that they would leave Arlington. From the Barismo blog (see above), it sounds like this will be a project space and more of a commercial venture, less a roaster that also sells prepared coffee. Don't worry!

I love Barismo and the amazing coffees they produce, but I'll be very curious to see how this new coffee bar is set up. A lot of people like to simply get a fantastic cup of coffee that they can take with them, especially students, and you can't really do that at Barismo; they look at you kind of funny and say "Uh, no, why don't we collaborate on a custom cup that matches your flavor profile, trying a few different brews..."

re: Boston_Otter
True for many, but there is a growing coffee culture in Boston and a decent number of people who are happy to patronize the more experimental places--see the recent opening of places like Voltage and Thinking Cup. I'm preaching to the choir, I realize. I am very excited about this new Barismo concept and tried very hard to deduce the location. I am on the lookout for a storefront with papered windows when I walk around Cambridge!
P.S. On Twitter, Jamie van Schyndel said it would be a "reasonable walk" from Inman, though that leaves a large possible area.-
re: hckybg
FYI. I am the real estate broker that put Voltage in Kendall and Flour in Central. I also did this deal and the address is 364 Broadway. It's near Inman Street and the Cambridge City Hall Annex. The entire space is going to be redone and when complete it will look beautiful. Barismo is the perfect fit for this neighborhood.

re: Snooch
Thanks Snooch!
I walk by that (former FB Hubley?) daily, and had joked with my wife that it was going to be Barismo's next location... but didn't think it really would be.
I think slightly off the beaten path could work well for them. I hope you got them a good deal on the rent!

The site was a little greedy with the autolinking. Here's the link again: http://twitpic.com/4qq74i
Looks like they are planning on opening a cafe sometime in the next few months (they've signed a lease, and the pics back that up I guess): http://blog.barismo.com/2011/05/updat...
"While short on time and working hard to keep things moving, our priorities have obviously been focused away from what is happening in the industry at large. With that being said, we somehow found the time and resources to sign a new space. We will be opening a new coffee bar concept in the following months. It is a barismo sponsored project but is really a complete and separate business from what barismo does and will carry a new name. A preview of what is to come will arrive in two months: A manifesto reflecting the mission statement, the rules for submitting coffees for the guest program, and a public review process that provides a feedback loop. We are planning on an event schedule of rotating speakers and unique industry topics as well. As to the gear on bar, it will be a new template for the modern coffee bar, able to do quality and volume without compromising. On the whole, we feel it will be one of the most thoroughly developed and well thought out coffee bars in the nation from day one. We intend to put the Boston metro/greater Cambridge coffee scenes on their respective heels."
