Capri Restaurant Spring Tx-Best Italian in or around Houston

Pretty bold statement but,,, I had dinner at Capri restaurant a couple of w/e's ago after reading the recent Allison Cook review. I don't always agree with her picks, but wow,, she was right on with the favorable comments posted about this restaurant.. The lasagna I was not loaded with meat in fact only a hint could I taste.. The real "meat "of the dish can be found in the heavenly ricotta and mozzarella layered between the tender noodles.. The tomato sauce was superb,, just like my Mother made! My GF's Gnocchi was a true eye opener... A creamy blend of 4 cheeses that meld together to create on the the most decadently rich dishes i've ever tasted.. It was a two Lipitor night for me!!

I had work in the Woodlands today and decided to stop for lunch... I ordered the eggplant parm.. A generous portion/mound was placed in front of me and I never looked up except,,, I decided to take a chicken parm to go and have for dinner this eve.. OMG,, hit after hit... I'm hooked,,, this little out of the way restaurant is my favorite for an authentic Italian meal.. The family style hospitality and service is terrific and the prices very affordable.. If you looking for Da Marco here,, you'll not find it. Nothing formal,, the Capri white table clothes catch the melted candle wax that drips from the bottle when lit at night.. This is a Mom and Pop place you might find in any Italian section of NYC that serve up simple and unforgettable dishes that leaves a lingering impression.. Foodies,,, this is a must visit!! Take your navigation system,, its not the easiest to find tho its of the feeder on 45 near rayford.... Enjoy!

        Awesome! I'm kind of glad they're way out in Spring... I've had that memory after taste all day long.... If they were located in town,, I'd be there tonight!!!!!! Hell,, what time is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      2. We were in the Woodlands this past weekend and had to try this place. What a find! If we could have fit it in again we would have. I had the Tagliatelle ai Funghi Portobella which was very good and made with homemade pasta. My husband had the lasagna, delicious. Their red, marinara, tomato sauce is excellent. I couldn't get enough of it. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other dishes.

          Drove to Spring last night for dinner at Capri for a 730p reservation. The restaurant was packed,, damn the recent publicity and word of mouth praise... I can imagine dinner on w/e's now will take some jockeying... I really like bringing my favorite wine to this byob eatery.. the cook staff (incl owner Barbara) and waitstaff had their duties under control in spite of the large crowd.. Dinner after a small salad was superb.. I had the chicken parm with sides of cut boiled garlic potatoes and zucchini.. The chicken was tender with barely a hint of mozzarella and the marinara sauce had the right blend of sweet/acidic.. I could make a meal on the sauce and bread alone... My gf had the "special" of homemade ribbon pasta,, of green and red, with clams.. Dinner was topped off with a serving of mini deserts, inc tiramisu, marcopone cup with choc syrup and a choc crunch cookie, coffee and capp.. Left completely satisfied with no room to spare for another crumb.. The bill came to $52 and change!!!! A steal!!!! Capri is my favorite restaurent in/outside of town.. The food is a memorable throwback to a recent trip to the Tuscany region and south and my NY/NJ roots. The restaurant is open Monday.......

            Went back to Capri for lunch yesterday and there was only one other couple there. Still worth the drive for me from Clear Lake. We are now making up errands in the Woodlands so that we can eat there again.

            I had the eggplant parm....mmm, mmm, good. This could be my have-to get everytime I'm there. The waiter, a gentleman from Poland, says he likes the chicken parm better. With my eggplant I also got 2 sides. For whatever reason I got broccoli soup. So good, but then I like broccoli. I might have to get that again even in the middle of summer. We also had the burrata stuffed with something. It was a special. We enjoyed it. Excellent burrata. It was served with tomatoes and greens with basil. Really good. Hubby went back for the lasagna. I tried it and I remember it being better but I think it was just that the noodles were overcooked a bit. Barbara was not in the kitchen. According to the waiter she was at a was Memorial Day.

                Yeah, i went back for lunch today since I had work in the Woodlands in the morning.. Had the lasagna... Also, the zuccini soup... Oh man! Took a chx marsala and two sides to go. $22. I'm addicted to Capri,, clearly, I am powerless,, I admit it.. Time to get into a 12 step program!

                  Their housemade burrata is insanely good.

          2. We went to Capri last night and I over heard the waiter saying it was reservations only. Not sure if it was for last evening or an indefinite period of time but I was glad we had reservations. Also we took a bottle of wine and they have a terrible cork screw so next time I'll take a wine key.

            That said, it was delicious. I tried the chicken parm and while it was good I prefer the eggplant. They didnt have eggplant because it didnt look good. Have to love that in a restaurant. Hubby had the lasagna which he can't get enough of and it was delicious with melt in your mouth noodles. Daughter had the 4 cheese gnocchi. The sauce was excellent but the gnocchi were a bit heavy.

            1. We're out in Katy, so the trek to Capri is pretty long. Still, I do drive up to Dallas from time to time, and the last couple of times, I've called Capri when I'm heading back south for home, and ordered a pan of lasagna to go.

              Get home, cut it into wedges to serve 4, and put it in the freezer.

              So so good.
