Mother's Day in Hull?

Any recommendations? We have one member of the party who won;t do seafood, otherwise we pretty much like anything -

  1. I like Saporito's a lot, but I'm not sure they open for lunch, and at this late date you may not be able to get a reservation. But try anyway. Their food is special. Good service, wine and deserts. Another good choice would be Tosca or The Square Cafe in Hingam center, not too far away. Mezzo Mare is excellent, but again you'd have to call and find out if they're open for lunch. Otherwise go for dinner. Their food is great.

These are all good recs and I will add Bridgeman's in Hull. Call any of these immediately for rezzies, though, none is large and they'll be busy.

    2. You did not specify lunch or dinner. I would avoid Bridgeman's. Saporito's is wonderful. Very intimate and charming. Service excellent. Jake's is a lot of fun. They are a seafood restaurant, but have some wonderful options for meat, chicken and pasta eaters. Good family place.

      1. Thanks for all the great tips. I ended up picking Jake's, their menu shows a decent choice of chicken/beef and the rest of us love seafood. And they were able to accomodate us at 2:00 for lunch, which was perfect.
We had been to Saporito's for Mother's Day a few years ago, I liked it but my mother just didn't "get" it. Did Scarlet Oak in Hingham last year (very good). I take my mom to The Square a lot, so it wouldn;t have been different.
Again, thanks for the tips, I don't live on the South Shore (grew up there) and it really helps to get the local knowledge. Lunch on Mother's Day is always a crapshoot (everyplace is a zoo) but if you can ride the carousel after lunch, it's a nice day!!

          I like Jake's - and I love the merry-go-round!

I rent a car and go to Jakes for atmosphere, lobster roll and warm friendly service.

It is a place that has stepped out of time to a happier era. But, you can still get a good meal at a good price.

If the Arcade is open, go play skiball after your meal.

Jake's absolutely never disappoints, we go there all the time. Their lobster rolls and their fish and chips are our standard orders, but when we are feeling virtuous and order grilled fish I am always blown away by how perfect it is. The other thing i love is that the servers are all so well trained -- there's never any of that auctioning off of food ("Who has the lobster roll?") that you get at even nicer places these days. And the price is certainly right! Enjoy.
