Country Folks Homemade Ice Cream in Ocracoke

Melanie Wong May 2, 2011 08:57 PM

Yes, I brake for “homemade ice cream”. I spotted the Country Folks lemonade and ice cream stand next door to Daijio, not far along the road leading out of the Cedar Island ferry landing.

What made this even more of a must try was the promise to be free of artificial hormones, antibiotics and pesticides. The source is named as Jackson Dairy’s free range, grassfed cows.

A single scoop is $2 and a double only $3, making it easy to spring for two flavors. Strawberry on top was melty, but very nice and made with local Carolina strawberries. On the bottom, a firmer butter pecan was even better with rich buttery tones and packed with pecans. Dense and very creamy with a clean finish, good stuff.
