We go there often and have never been disappointed.
It's not gourmet Mexican but it is very good Tex-Mex and also a nice bar scene. If the weather is nice you can sit out on one of two patios. The 38 St side has an outside bar. Try the sliced steak nachos!!! The fresh made guacamole is outstanding.

You could try the Park Avenue South location of Dos Caminos. But it's getting late to get into any Mexican restaurant for Cinco de Mayo. Quick search on Opentable shows 20 Mexican restaurants and none have openings past 5 or 6:00 that night.

re: Elizabeth E.
ended up here! it was right next door to where my meeting was for the day - so I was able to get in at 5:15 right away! It was good - not great - service was terrible - and this was before it got really busy - also I guess I have frequented more authentic Mexican places on this day - so I missed the corny mariachi bands! I did enjoy the tequila flights - that was a fun opportunity! And the guacamole was terrific!

There is nothing in that neighborhood that I would recommend. Further uptown, Toloache, at 50th & 8th Ave., is fine, as is Hell's Kitchen, 9th Ave. between 46th and 47th Sts. Cinco de Mayo will be a zoo at any decent Mexican restaurant.
