Lunch by the courthouse

I've got jury duty tomorrow downtown at the Dade County Courthouse and I was wondering if you folks have any suggestions of where to go on whatever lunch break they give us.

  1. Which courthouse? The main one downtown (Flagler) or the Gerstein Justice Center on 12th?

It was the downtown one. For the record I ended up at Lime. Respectable fish tacos, but the refried beans had an slight metallic aftertaste which made them a little unpleasant. Also, the service was weirdly amateurish. Did they just open?

They did just open that location downtown, but you are right on the money. Lime is canned beans and amateur Mexy. And for further proof consider this, Ruby Tuesdays just agreed to open 200+ Lime Fresh Grills throughout the USA. There are however some really good eats in downtown these days most notably C-Viche 105, Soya e Pomodoro and Fratelli Milano.

    2. Too late for your jury duty, but I had a very good first meal at Little Lotus, which is tucked into one of those jewelry malls a block north of the Macy's (formerly Burdines) building. They have a chef who used to work at Yakko-San and the menu features a lot of Yakko-San's greatest hits; the other guy running it came down from Morimoto NY, and is Indonesian and some Indonesian stuff (that I haven't yet tried) is on the menu.

La Loggia also won't kill you.

Sparky's Roadside BBQ I've only tried once but it was pretty decent.

Thanks, Frod, for the heads up on Little Lotus. We are always happy to hear about something good downtown. It really gets boring around here. We'll try it tomorrow.

I went to Little Lotus twice this week. Everything was very good, including the sushi (well, maki), which was an incredible bargain on the lunch special at $4.99 for two rolls (I got the Crunchy Spicy Tuna and the Crunchy Spicy Salmon). The rolls were as good as I've had anywhere. The crispy bok choy was essentially the same as at Yakko-San, which is a good thing. The miso black cod was good, but was a suprisingly small portion for the price compared to the value of the maki.
