Salep in Boston?
I'm very intrigued by this (beverage from) powdered orchid roots . The Turkish store in Allston only has the commercial mix, not pure salep. Has anyone seen it here? Thanx much.

It is generally not clear whether any "salep mix" actually contains the orchid roots or not. In English, Turkish or Arabic, the ingredients lists are not unambiguously clear. However, the various Armenian markets on Mt. Auburn Street in Watertown have various salep mixes. Arax has the largest selection of different varieties. But they are all about the same price per unit weight. You may also be able to get some by going to Sofra Bakery and asking nicely.

re: lipoff
yes, the packaged version I mentioned -listed artificial salep flavoring or something like that, as the LAST ingred.!thanks for the sofra suggestion.
p.s. i wonder why CH has so many Asian afficianados but few or no Turkish experts (not one person responded to this search except you.)-
re: opinionatedchef
Some of the packaged versions at Arax and the other markets may contain real salep as well, it just isn't clear from the way the ingredients are listed on the package. I don't know enough about salep to know whether its telling that it's the last ingredient or not --- maybe a little real salep goes a long way. I do enjoy the beverage as well. And I am certainly an Asian afficianado and far from a Turkish expert! But I have seen many different brands of salep beverage mix at Arax Market. =)
